Great list! Johnny Cash did a really cool multi volume series of covers through the 90’s and 00’s that were called the American Recordings. His cover of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails got the most attention, but there is gold all throughout each installment.
Oh yes! I remember that now. He also did Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus didn't he? Again, he would come into that same category as Bowie and Eva for most people I bet. Taking ownership of a song anew. I am sure I missed some really obvious ones, but that's the fun. Glad you enjoyed it. I did some brain-racking, but it was easy labour!
Yes, some very good discoveries, I quite like Nazareth, and the Isley brothers with the guitar…Whoah. You have turned me into a Roxy Music fan; I feel like they have good creative energy. 2HB is still my favorite though. Thank you very much .
Nazareth ! Rock chick then :) . I think you would like a lot of the early Roxy albums, when they were more Art Rock than FM radio staples. Glad you enjoyed the ramble.
Some of these I didn’t realize were covers. What a great list, and a fun topic. The disturbed sound of silence is a huge favorite in my house. I will have to listen to these better tomorrow, but I enjoy reading your musical insights and I appreciate your deep love and wide knowledge of good music. Long live rock ‘n’ roll.
Well it's great if a reader makes a few new discoveries or has some memories revived, so that's great to hear! And thank you for the compliments. I try to make it light hearted and not too dry, so I appreciate the feedback. Enjoy making your way through the unfamiliar ones, anyway.
Thanks for the contribution suggestions. I recall the Cocteau Twins being particular favourites of John Peel. The Billie Holiday cover is as extraordinary as I expected from them.

Yes, that fits!
I found some more after I heard 2HB, I had them going while I was painting, it was perfect. ☺️
